Our policy for ‘Letters to the Editor’

The News-Gazette welcomes letters to the editor that are committed to furthering community dialogue.

Letters may be submitted in person or email and must include an address and phone number for verification. If the author of a letter cannot be confirmed, the letter will not be published.

    Please remember:

    • Letters should be typed for electronic transmission. No hand-written letters.

    • Letters are subject to editing to correct spelling, but not style.

    • There is no guarantee that all letters received will be published or when they will be published.

    • If a letter is rejected the author will be notified.

    • Unfair criticism of private individuals, businesses or private organizations, poetry or inappropriate language will not be accepted for publication.

News-Gazette letters to the editor do not necessarily express the opinion of the newspaper, its ownership or employees.

Letters are published as a public service to the community.

There is a limit of two letters per writer per calendar month.

Winchester Kiwanis Club Newspaper Delivery Drive

Thank you to the Winchester Community for once again being so supportive of our Winchester Kiwanis Club Newspaper Delivery Drive on Tuesday, Oct. 16th. This was our 70th consecutive year for this project. Although we do not yet have a final total we believe the proceeds for this year will be over $3000.

A special thanks to the WCHS Key Club led by Sponsor, Cris Fine and the WCHS Lady Falcons basketball team led by Head coach, Holly Gutierrez. Without these two fine organizations this project would not be possible.

It is a unique and treasured relationship that we have with The News-Gazette. Without their generosity this “one-of-a-kind” project that has generated tens of thousands of dollars over the years would not have happened.

In humble gratitude we thank everyone who had a part in this year’s 2018 Kiwanis Club Newspaper Delivery Drive Project.

Is there a Libertarian in you

Now personally I am not a person who generally likes to get too involved in politics.  I prefer to be on the sidelines and like most of us just complain.

Well this year I guess I will have to rethink my involvement, you see my nephew Tom Ferkinhoff is running for the U.S. House of Representatives for Indiana District 6 as the Libertarian Candidate.  I have always considered myself a left leaning Republican or right leaning Democrat, in other words a moderate (none of which is in either party anymore).  So when Tom told me what his plan was and shared his beliefs, I began to think more and more about my politics.  I took a look at the Libertarians and then decided to learn more about what they actually stand for.

Like most people I knew very little about the Libertarian Party and always thought I would be “throwing my vote away.” I discovered there is a bit of Libertarian in almost all of us.  I would simply suggest that you first look at the Libertarian Party @ and see what you think.  I bet you will find more than you realize.

After what I have seen in the past few weeks in Washington I am now more sure than ever that, it is time for a real change.  It is time to start changing who we send to Washington to represent US the people of the 6th District of Indiana.  It is time to VOTE for someone who is willing to look out for the interests of the people and not the interest of a party.  I believe if you will take the time to look seriously at Tom Ferkinhoff you will see why we need to have a man like Tom as our Representative for the 6th District. Go to WWW.FERKINHOFF2018.COM and look at Tom’s campaign promises. As a physical conservative Tom will represent our interests well.

I ask you to be sure to vote this year and I hope you, like me will vote for Tom Ferkinhoff, a Libertarian.

    Lets make a real change.
